Festival vielsaitig – don’t miss it

Stadtansicht Füssen, Fotostudio Samer

Since 2003 the Verdi Quartet has been presenting its own festival called vielsaitig (in German this word means “many-stringed” and sounds the same as the word meaning “many-sided”) in cooperation with the city of Füssen. This is a successful and ever-fascinating mixture of concerts and master courses for chamber music and soloists, accompanied by a symposium for string-instrument building.

With the motto chosen for this year, the festival refers in more than one way to its current musical programme: “Wonder” is also a reference to the splendid setting of the monastery of St Mang, which plays a special role for the city of Füssen and its richly traditional festival. The history of the stunningly spacious building in which the main events take place never fails to have its effect on the performers, their choice of works and their interpretative sensibilities – which achieves the ideal of every true festival.

Once again the programme for this year’s festival naturally includes master-classes for young musicians, excursions, readings and lectures.
